Aircraft take off and land against the wind. Since the runways at Narita basically stretch north to south (NNW/SSE), aircraft take-off and land northward when there is a northerly wind, and southward when there is a southerly wind. Please keep this in mind when choosing the best position for taking photographs.

Aircraft operations at Narita Airport are limited to between 6:00am and 11:00pm. However, during this time, aircraft traffic can be extremely heavy or light, depending on the time of day. |

Passenger service departures peak from 10:00am to 12:00 noon, and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Around 40% of all flights are concentrated in these time slots. Meanwhile, approximately 50% of services arrive in the 5-hour slot between 1:00pm and 6:00pm.
