As a joint scheme between Narita International Airport Corporation and the Narita International Airport Tenants Council, we have produced "I speak a foreign language" badges for use at all shops in the airport. Bilingual or multilingual shop staff have been wearing these badges since the end of April.
♦Objectives
This scheme was devised in response to a survey on how many shop staff were capable of serving customers in foreign languages (other than English) and whether they were wearing badges so that this was plain to see for the customers.
The results indicated that approximately 400 staff members could speak foreign languages but only 30% were wearing badges. Because the badges worn were produced by individual companies, they also differed greatly in design and shapes.
Therefore, we produced uniformly designed badges to avoid different shops using different designs and to improve our customer services. This will enable visitors from abroad to use more of our retail facilities and enjoy their time at Narita Airport.
