Japan pledged to reduce greenhouse gases by 6% on 1990 levels by 2012 under the Kyoto Protocol to prevent further global warming.
However, emissions have increased 40% in the domestic sector and in the commercial and miscellaneous sectors, which includes offices and, therefore, we must step up our measures. In an effort to achieve Japan's target, the Ministry of the Environment launched a campaign in June 2007 to reduce CO2 emissions by 1 kg per person per day by reviewing our individual lifestyles and work practices. The campaign has been deployed nationwide with the backing of many private corporations and is aimed at expanding public involvement in preventing global warming by offering incentives to those who participate by selecting an item from their daily lives that is included in the list of options for preventing global warming and adopting that as their personal challenge.
As part of its eco-airport initiatives, Narita Airport is providing the following in support of the campaign from Tuesday, 21 August 2007.
