Environmental conservation activities

As measures against environmental issues, we are implementing resources recycling to effectively use the limited resources and reduce the burden on global environment, through the reuse and effective utilization of wastes discharged through airport operation.

Recycling of general waste

General waste generated from the passenger terminal buildings is sorted into categories such as glass bottles, cans, and PET bottles, and recyclable materials are actively recycled.

Recycling of construction debris

Concrete and asphalt waste generated from renovation work in apron areas and runways is crushed at on-site recycling plants and reused as recycled aggregate for construction projects within the airport.

Effective Use of Cut Grass

Grass cutting is conducted several times a year in the green areas around the runways, and some of the cut grass is reused as livestock feed by local farmers.

"Plastic-smart in Narita Airport" declaration

In September 2019, Narita International Airport announced the “Narita Airport Plastic Smart” declaration, aiming to achieve 100% sustainable plastic products by FY2025.

Project to reuse resources in Narita Airport

From April 1, 2023, we started the Project to reuse resources in Narita Airport, a joint project on resources recycling to collect packing films and wooden transportation materials that are discarded after the transportation of air cargoes, and utilizing them by processing into recycled products.

Effective Use of Water Resources

We are working on water saving and reusing initiatives so as to use water, an important life resource, as effectively as possible.
