Details of airport notificationA New Tax-Free Shopping System, “Refund Method”

For purchases made on November 1, 2026, and onwards, the tax-free shopping system will be changed to a refund method where an amount equivalent to consumption tax will be refunded to purchasers after it is confirmed upon departure at airport or seaport customs that the purchased goods will be carried out of Japan.

* The procedures for nonresidents with Japanese nationality (temporary returnees) will also change.
