There are some restrictions on carry-on baggage and checked baggage. Here is an explanation of restricted items.
1.Disclaimer
In Japan, security screening of passengers is conducted by each airline under the Civil Aeronautics Act. This website shows typical security screening rules adopted by airlines operating at Narita Airport. However, please be aware that each airline may have its own restrictions.

2.Liquids, such as cosmetic items and beverages
Carry-on baggage
For international flights, there are basically restrictions on liquids you can carry on board the aircraft. For more information, refer to “Restrictions on Carry-on Liquids on International Flights.
Checked baggage
You can put liquids in your checked baggage. However, there are restrictions for some types of liquids to be put in checked baggage.
3.Cigarette lighters
Carry-on baggage
You can bring only one cigarette lighter on board the aircraft. However, your airline may have different rules. Make inquiries with the airline in advance.
Checked baggage
You cannot put any cigarette lighter in your checked baggage. Make sure that you have not left one in your suitcase or clothes.
4.Knives
Carry-on baggage
You basically cannot carry any knives on board the aircraft, including stationery items, such as scissors and box cutters, and small knives attached to key chains.

Checked baggage
You can put knives in your checked baggage. However, there may be restrictions depending on the length and size of the blade.
5.Prohibited items
Carry-on baggage
You cannot carry any prohibited items on board the aircraft. For prohibited items, refer to the following.
Checked baggage
You cannot put any prohibited items in your checked baggage.
