Founded in 1869 (Meiji 2), Kimuraya Sohonten created the original Sakadane Anpan in 1874 (Meiji 7). The following year, it presented Sakura Anpan to Emperor Meiji. Since then, anpan has been enjoyed as a symbol of Japan's modernization and has become a beloved Ginza specialty.
